We can now supply custom header builders, muffler shops and other fabricators with all the material needed to create a custom header from the flange all the way to the collector. We can also supply exhaust sized tubing up to 5" in diameter as well as collector mufflers. rings, reducers and fittings to complete your exhaust project. 

Formed Collectors - Mild Steel

Dawson Racing Headers offers formed collectors in the most popular inlet and outlet sizes in both mild (1010) and stainless (304) steel. These collectors are formed with a long smooth transition to help provide superior exhaust flow. We also offer custom collector forming for those fabricators with special needs. Standard Merged Slip-On Collectors - Mild Steel

The Dawson Racing Headers Standard Merged Slip-On Collectors are constructed with the primary tubes joining as they enter the transition of the collector to form a spear. This spear helps to eliminate the large void in a standard slip-on collector. The elimination of this void helps to increase velocity and reduce turbulance as the exhaust enters the collector. This results in increased efficiency by allowing improved scavenging.

This collector comes as standard equipment on all of our custom racing headers. We also offer custom slip-on collectors for any fabrication needs. Call us to see if we can build a collector for you. All collectors are sold individually and include attaching hardware. Available in standard raw finish or optional metallic ceramic coating.

Max Velocity Neckdown Merge Slip On Collectors

This collector has been gaining popularity in the faster drag racing classes such as Pro Stock, Comp. Eliminator and Super Stock as well as NASCAR or anywhere maximum horsepower and torque are required. It must be noted that to gain the maximum benfit from this collector design dyno testing is recommended.

The Max Velocity Neckdown Merge Collectors begin life in the same manner as the standard Merged Collectors shown above do - with the primary tubes joining to form a spear. The collector then continues on a taper (generally between 12 and 25 degrees) to a predetermined throat diameter where a taper (or megaphone) is is attached to transition up to the final outlet diameter. These sizes are specific to each combination and require information about that engine combination. Please call us and we will work with you to determine the proper sized collector for you.

It is important to understand how these collectors work and why they require proper engine tuning to be effective. Merge collectors improve the efficiency of a header system (sometimes above 100 percent V.E.) by increasing the exhaust velocity in the header They can actually over-scavenge the engine causing a loss of horsepower and torque when compared to a previously optimized header and collector combination. Because of this, testing is necessary to help arrive at the best camshaft combination for this type of collector. If you are willing to do the testing, a merge collector will maintain or increase the horsepower at peak and "fatten" the torque curve over the entire range. Gains of 10 to 25 horsepower and matching torque numbers are not uncommon over a standard "can" type collector.

The Max Velocity Neckdown Merge Collectors are available in 4, 5, 6 and 8 into one configurations. They are available in mild steel - both raw and metallic ceramic coated and in stainless steel. Tri-Y Style Slip On Collectors

The Tri-Y style collector has been around for a number of years, but due to refinements is becoming more popular in a wide variety of classes. Like the Neckdown collector above, dyno testing is recommended to gain maximum benefit from this type of collector.

This style collector has proven to be very effective in heavier cars and those with automatic transmissions. It has also been useful in situations where an existing header has a primary tube that is too large. This collector helps to increase torque and make the car "more responsive" on the gear changes.

As with the Neckdown collector, these Tri-Y collectors require a specific size for each combination to be most effective. Because these sizes are specific to each combination, they require very specific information about your combination. Please call us and we will work with you to determine the proper sized collector for you. These collectors are available in mild steel - both raw and metallic ceramic coated and in stainless steel.
